From the preface: "This monograph was undertaken in the belief that a comprehensive review of our current knowledge of the structure of ribosomes and of the methods used to study them would be of value to the many biochemists who are working directly in this field, adn to others who are interested in other aspects of the problem of protein synthesis and the genetic controls of protein structure and synthetic rate. The main body reviews the literature up to October 1963; more recent papers of particular significance are summarized in the Addendum."
