In Spanish. Only 1,000 copies printed. Scarce. Published by the Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (CONACULTA) in Mexico City in 2000, this slim volume of travel writing in Spanish (149 pages) collects the observations of Paco Ignacio Taibo I (1924–2008), the Asturian-born journalist, novelist, and critic. Taibo was born in Gijón and settled in Mexico, where he became a central figure in the capital’s cultural journalism: he founded and directed the cultural section of El Universal. He also wrote widely on cinema, with studies of María Félix and Emilio “El Indio” Fernández, and on food, as in El libro de todos los moles. The book’s subtitle names the genre, but the main title, which means something like “notions” or “witticisms,” sets the tone: brief, wry notes from the road rather than a formal travelogue. It appeared in CONACULTA’s Periodismo Cultural series with a foreword by David Huerta, the Mexican poet, which places it within the tradition of the literary crónica. Taibo was the father of the novelist and historian Paco Ignacio Taibo IITaibo, Paco Ignacio, I, 1924-2008 -- Travel. Taibo, Mexican essays -- Mexico -- Mexico City.
