In English. Uncommon. "This lavishly produced book, containing more than 100 coloured and 300 monochrome illustrations, discusses the extensive range of prints and illustrated books of Indonesia published in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Indonesia during the nineteenth century. The text gives a running bibliographical commentary on the prints and books and this is supported by extensive notes which throw considerable new light on the details of their publication. In addition to this new data the authors provide information on printers and publishers, as well as on the artists and engravers of the prints. Especial attention is given to the artists, biographical information about whom is given in a separate appendix. An important section of the book is devoted to early lithographic printing in Indonesia, and to the work of the famous Indonesian artist, Raden Saleh." —jacket. // **Heavy item.
