Mari was an ancient city located in what is now modern-day Syria. It was a major cultural and political center during the Bronze Age and flourished from the 3rd millennium BCE to the 2nd millennium BCE. The city was situated on the western bank of the Euphrates River and played a significant role in the history and trade of the region.
