In Spanish. Inscribed and signed by Padilla —in pencil. Name of recipient obscured in photo for privacy. 1,000 copies printed. Ala del tigre [series]. Poems by the Mexican actor and theater director trained in dramatic literature at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México’s (UNAM’s) Facultad de Filosofía y Letras, whose verse carries the stage’s sense of voice and atmosphere into intimate, nocturnal, dreamlike settings where nostalgia, passion and disenchantment converge. Padilla first came to notice with the 1985 Punto de Partida poetry prize for Romper los muros, then won further prizes for the erotic sequence Eurídice en la cama (1996) and, at the Juegos Florales of Sonora, Brunilda de los patos (1997). Contributor to Fem, the feminist magazine, as well as Tierra Adentro and the Revista de la Universidad de México, with work anthologized in La Poésie mexicaine (1989) and Mujeres que besan y tiemblan (1999), a collection of erotic verse by Mexican women. A scarce early collection from a poet whose work stands in the current of women’s erotic and confessional writing that reshaped Mexican poetry in the 1980s and 1990s.
