Cambridge; Maryland: Cornell Maritime Pres, 1952; (1939). Fourth edition (as stated parenthetically on copyright page). Small folio in dark blue polished cloth; xv, 690 pages, numerous illustrations, 26 cm; index. 3 lbs 8 ounces before packing. Lacks jacket. A good (++) to very good (-) copy that shows some rubbing to edges and bumping to corners; small darkened spot on front cover near spine; endpapers stamped in ink (an association copy) and a tad foxed; binding intact but slightly askew; Please refer to photos. Hardcover.
Fascinating survey of all the things rope can do, and a little piece of maritime military history. Illustrations are striking as aesthetic objects, and descriptions/instructions surely useful for those with experience. This association copy was seemingly in the library of the "USNS Longview T-AGM-3", originally called USNS Haiti Victory, which was "built and operated as Greenville class cargo Victory ship which operated as a cargo carrier in both the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean during World War II .
In 1960 she was renamed USNS Longview (T-AGM-3) Longview-class missile range instrumentation ship and converted to use as a missile tracking ship which operated in the Pacific Ocean Western Test Range until she was placed out of service and eventually disposed of." --Wikipedia.
