Karl Ludwig Johannes Baedeker was a German publisher whose company, Baedeker, set the standard for authoritative guidebooks for tourists. The publishing house was originally founded in Germany in 1750. While the travel guide was not something new, Baedeker emulated the style of English guide books with the inclusion of detailed information on routes, travel and accommodation, and was considered extremely innovative for the time.
