Signed and inscribed by the Gerbracht in a small neat hand on prefacxe page. Robert “Bob” Gerbracht (1924–2017) was a figurative painter and teacher based in the San Francisco Bay Area, best known for his pastel portraits and figure studies. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in painting from Yale University and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Southern California. In 1979 he began teaching private classes and workshops in drawing and painting the portrait and figure, the work for which a generation of students remembered him. His approach rested on close observation of color, shape, and individual character; he once told the writer Maggie Price, in the second issue of The Pastel Journal (1999), that “there’s something to be discovered in every face.” His paintings were exhibited across the United States and in Israel, Austria, and China, and won many top awards. He was a member of the Society of Western Artists, a Pastel Laureate of the Pastel Society of the West Coast, and a Master Pastelist of the Pastel Society of America (PSA), which inducted him into its Hall of Fame in 2015. He died at his home in Pinole, California, on April 28, 2017, at the age of 92. ¶ Bay Area realist painters
