No world cat record. Authors: John D. Powell (Weapons and Materials Research Directorate, ARL) and Lindsey D. Thornhill (Science Applications International Corporation).Abstract: "Model calculations to describe the properties of FLARE and similar-type igniters currently being employed in electrothermal-chemical guns are undertaken. The intent of the calculations it to describe both the electrical-conduction characteristics of these devices and the properties of the plasma that they produce. Some reasonably general formalism for solving the coupled Maxwell and plasmadynamic equations is presented. Two separate models, differing considerably in complexity, are then developed. [...] Both models are shown to give reasonably similar results. [...] The need for treating those additional effects in future calculations, as well as the need for additional experimental work, is discussed."
