"This report covers technical progress on the Advanced Pulsed Power Research Program (APP) during the first quarter of FY '81. The overall objective of this program is to develop cost-effective, scalable pulsed power technology to support research in the simulation of soft X-rays produced by exo-atmospheric detonation of nuclear weapons. In pursuit of this objective we have developed a conceptual design for a large accelerator, called ROULETTE, which would produce a 50 TW, 2 MV, 25 MA, 100 ns output pulse. This accelerator would be used for research in intense plasma radiator sources. The principal objective of te FY '81 APP program is to build and test on module of ROULETTE. This module, called EAGLE, is presently under construction." --Introductory abstract. Includes updates on progress of EAGLE's construction, and construction of an insulator for EAGLE, work on the OWL generator, and the Alternate Generator Study. Three technical publications are also reproduced and included as appendices.
