The International Critical Commentary series was founded in 1895 under the editorship of S. R. Driver, Alfred Plummer, and C. A. Briggs, published by T. & T. Clark of Edinburgh. The series set out to marshal all available aids to exegesis — linguistic, textual, archaeological, historical, literary, and theological — without imposing uniformity of interpretation on its contributors.
