London: Hodder & Stoughton, [1911]. [First American trade edition, first printing.]. Large quarto in rustic beige cloth with stamped and gilded title and ornamentation to front board; viii, 250 pages, 2 unnumbered pages: color illustrations; 29 cm. Color fontis plate tipped in and 28 color plates also tipped in. Spine expertly re-backed in full leather, with new end papers and paste-downs; rear board re-clothed (almost goes un-noticed); neat gift inscription to preliminary leaf recto; no tissue guards aside form that for p113 laid in; plate to page 51 ('It is gold, 'it is gold, they cried') partially loose and inadvertently bound in askew (possibly an easy fix). Overall, a very good(+) copy thus, and arguablt appearing even more attractive than original binding, now with full leather gilded and ornamented spine. 5 lbs when packed. A tight clean copy. Unique thus, with leather spine. Hardcover.
