Born Frances Brewer in New York, she married George Lysnar, a wealthy New Zealand sheep farmer, in 1902. The couple lived in New Zealand for several years before returning to the United States. Known for her philanthropic work, particularly in the area of education, she donated a significant amount of money to Syracuse University, her alma mater, and funded the construction of several buildings on the university's campus.
