"Tanks were used extensively in the Battle of El Alamein during World War II. This battle, which took place in Egypt from October 23 to November 4, 1942, was a turning point in the North African Campaign.

The British Eighth Army, commanded by General Bernard Montgomery, had a significant number of tanks at their disposal, including the M4 Sherman and the Crusader. The German Afrika Korps, led by General Erwin Rommel, also had a significant number of tanks, including the Panzer III and Panzer IV.

The battle is notable for the large-scale use of tanks and artillery. The British used their tanks in a carefully coordinated attack with artillery and infantry, which was a significant factor in their victory. The battle marked the beginning of the end for Axis forces in North Africa."
