"Maxwell R. Garret (1921–2009), an American fencer and educator, distinguished himself both as a competitor and coach in the field of fencing. After an All-American fencing career at Yale University and service in World War II, Garret won gold medals at the Pan American Games in 1951 and 1955, and represented the United States at the 1952 and 1956 Summer Olympics. In addition to his competitive accomplishments, Garret contributed significantly to fencing as an educator at the University of Pittsburgh, promoting and developing the sport. His authorship of multiple books on fencing further underlines his commitment to the sport. His profound impact on fencing was recognized through his induction into the US Fencing Hall of Fame."— Bing. / Escrime. Fencing. Schermen (sport)
