Printed in full-color. / African-American artist "Faith Ringgold, born in 1930, is an influential American artist known for her narrative quilts, paintings, and children's books that address social and political issues, particularly those related to race and gender. Born and raised in Harlem, New York, Ringgold's work is deeply influenced by her experiences during the Harlem Renaissance and the Civil Rights Movement. Ringgold earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in visual arts from City College of New York. She began her career as a painter in the 1960s, creating politically charged works that confronted racial violence and inequality. In the 1970s, Ringgold pioneered the medium of "story quilts" — large-scale artworks that combine painting, quilted fabric, and storytelling. Her most famous story quilt, "Tar Beach," depicts a young girl dreaming of flying over Harlem. This piece was later adapted into a successful children's book, also titled "Tar Beach." Ringgold has received numerous awards and honors for her contributions to the arts and education, and her work is displayed in major museums around the world. As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, Ringgold continues to create art and advocate for racial and gender equality in the arts." / Black Female American artists; painters; note cards, greeting cards
