Edmund Blunden (1869-1974) was nominated six times for the Nobel Prize and is one of the sixteen Great War poets named on the 1985 memorial in Poets’ Corner, Westminster Abbey.  This book grew out of Blunden’s 1928 study of the Examiner and carries on its rehabilitation of Hunt. Here he is the editor jailed for libelling the Prince Regent and the champion of Keats and Shelley: passionate, plain-spoken and liberal, not the Victorian lightweight or Dickens’s Skimpole. Research interrupted by Blunden’s 1924 appointment to the chair of English Literature at the Imperial University, Tokyo, which also let him concentrate on one period of Hunt’s life. Strongest on the Keats–Shelley years, with new precision: Keats’s first meeting with Hunt fixed, with near certainty, at Sunday, 1 December 1816, correcting Colvin’s spring of that year. Hunt’s household comes through vividly: Shelley in his darkest period, Keats a regular at the musical fireside and later nursed there. A poet’s sympathetic portrait by a fellow Christ’s Hospital old boy and war poet, later Oxford Professor of Poetry. Partisan, but long regarded as a classic for its full listing of Hunt’s own works, and the foundation for every later life.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Blunden, Edmund","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":50911206146306,"sku":"106969","price":105.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0675\/4412\/1602\/files\/106969_3fe4fb2d-d6f7-4117-bd11-57bef6fe27f7.jpg?v=1793303356","url":"https:\/\/bibliope.com\/products\/leigh-hunt-a-biography","provider":"Bibliope","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
