He is known for his controversial novels, which often dealt with taboo topics such as drug addiction and sex. Trocchi was a leading figure in the literary movement known as the Beat Generation, and was associated with writers such as William S. Burroughs and Jack Kerouac. Trocchi's most famous novel is \"Cain's Book\" (1960), which is semi-autobiographical and describes the life of a heroin addict in New York City. He also wrote the novel \"Young Adam\" (1954), which was adapted into a film in 2003, and the novella \"The Holy Man\" (1969). In addition to his writing, Trocchi was also involved in the underground drug culture and was a member of the avant-garde artistic community in Paris in the 1950s. He later moved to the United States, where he became a key figure in the countercultural scene in New York City. Despite his reputation as a controversial figure, Trocchi is considered by many to be a significant influence on modern literature and art.\" \/\/ Contents: My Father had False Teeth: from Cain's Book -- Sort of a Blessed Curse \/ Patti Smith -- A Scottish George Best of Literature \/ Irvine Welsh -- An Encyclopaedia Entry \/ Howard Slater -- Glasgow -- Free to Choose from the Beginning: from Cain's Book -- Edwin Morgan -- Tapeworm -- Paris -- Dear Jack and Marjorie -- Jane Lougee -- Merlin, Autumn 1952 -- Alexander Trocchi and the Beginning of Merlin \/ Christopher Logue -- Letter from Paris -- Richard Seaver -- Young Adam Before -- Merlin, Summer \/ Autumn 1954 -- George Plimpton -- Merlin, Spring \/ Summer 1955 -- Terry Southern -- The Dirty Young Adam: an Afterword \/ Maurice Girodias -- Censorship and Virtue -- Young Adam After -- Jane Lougee -- What the Hell am I Doing Here: from Cain's Book -- New York -- Jane Lougee -- Terry Southern -- Half an Hour Ago I Gave Myself a Fix: from Cain's Book -- Ned Polsky -- Richard Seaver -- George Plimpton -- From Cain's Book, volume 2 -- A Fifteen-year-old Chick and a Double Bass \/ Trocchi in conversation with Allen Ginsberg and Peter Orlovsky -- Ned Polsky -- Hands Off Alexander Trocchi \/ Guy Debord \/ Jacqueline de Jong \/ Asger Jorn -- Leonard Cohen -- Alexander Trocchi, Public Junkie, Prie Pour Nous \/ Leonard Cohen -- Ned Polsky -- London -- Respectable Yet Sinister \/ Leonard Maguire interviews Alex Trocchi -- John Calder -- The Edinburgh International Writers' Conference -- Trocchi's Speech to the Edinburgh International Writers' Conference -- William Burroughs -- Invisible Insurrection of a Million Minds -- Bomb Culture \/ Jeff Nuttall -- project sigma: Cultural Engineering \/ Alex Trocchi \/ Philip Green -- The Long Book -- John Calder -- [actual symbol not reproducible] S D (love, sex, death \/ pounds, shillings, pence \/ lysergic acid) -- Letter to Maurice -- Michael X \/ Alex Trocchi in conversation with Allen Ginsberg and Peter Orlovsky -- Sally Child -- I Could Have Told It Much Better I'm Sure \/ Alex Trocchi in conversation with Allen Ginsberg and Peter Orlovsky -- We Drive Each Other Up the Wall \/ Alex Trocchi in conversation with Kit Lambert and Rt Hon.
