Fiction. Scarce. | Denis A. Antonov (1936–1994) was a Russian émigré writer in West Germany. In the mid-1980s he issued a short run of Russian-language books under his own imprint, the “Chekhovgrad Publishing House,” whose name doubles as an imaginary place of publication. The series includes Vosstanie (Uprising, 1983), Volia, 1984 (Freedom, 1984, 1984), and Den’ pobedy: razvedka boem (Victory Day: Reconnaissance in Force, 1985). The Radio Free Europe\/Radio Liberty (RFE\/RL) samizdat and émigré collection, now at the Open Society Archives in Budapest, holds a run of his books, some inscribed by the author. That suggests he sent them to the émigré broadcasting world himself. A scarce, privately published example of late-Cold-War émigré literature, published outside the established tamizdat houses.
